Local delicacy from Bruges
When visiting Bruges, discovering the local delicacy is a must. Below we give you the best spots to do so. Do you know more? Let us know!
The chocolate line
This chocolate store is very well known throughout Belgium. The chocolate line is owned by Dominique Persoone, one of the best chocolatiers. The chocolate line exists since 1992 and offers special pralines with for instance vodka, bacon, matcha,… So if you want to try something different? You know where to be. In 2004 the store was included in the micheling guide. Only 3 chocolate stores across the country are included in the guide.
Bakery Schaeverbeke
The better bakery, already 35 years a fixture in Bruges. One that turns out every day with a series of special breads that are baked with yeast or with biodesem. Artisanal French specialties such as ‘cannelés de Bordeaux’, ‘financiers’, ‘gaufres de flandres’, … everything is made in-house and every day. The bakery is located just outside the city but it is worth the small walk!
Brewery’s
Here in Bruges we only have local beers that are very popular. All local beer is also brewed locally. If you are interested, click here to discover the local breweries.
Oud huis Deman
At “Oud Huis Deman” you can find Bruges rusks and Bruges eights. Brugs rusks are based on milk bread and go perfectly with cheese and meat. Brugse achten is a kind of butter cake. Old House Deman has been around for over 140 years and only makes Bruges delicacies. Best of the best I guess. Want to give these Bruges rusks or the eights a try? “Oud huis Deman” is open every Friday from 8:30 am to 12 am.
Confectionery De Clerck
Sweets were already baked here about a century ago and in 1948, when the grandparents of the current manager took over the store, they expanded the range. Today you can eat pure nostalgia here. Brugse nunnebillen’, ‘muiletrekkers’, ‘kletskoppen’, ‘poeptjes’, everything you once devoured in your youth, you will find here. You can also buy very tasty chocolates here! All of Bruges’ sweets and chocolates in one place.
Diksmuids Boterhuis
No chocolate or candy store this time! The Diksmuids Boterhuis has been a household name since 1936. In this small, but crammed quality store you will find excellent cheeses, often bought from small farmers around the world. Besides cheeses, they also sell the very best Spanish hams (lomo, serano, iberico, pata negra, …) and much more. According to the locals, this is where you’ll find the best cheese boards!
